A pop-up playground hosted by Penn State students in the city of Reading will return this spring semester to have children building and playing alongside their parents.
Jivaka.net — the recently-released project of C. Pierce Salguero, associate professor of Asian history and religious studies at Penn State Abington — is the product of a years-long survey of Buddhist temples and centers located in the Philadelphia area. Much of the research legwork for the site was completed by undergraduate students working with Salguero.
The Office for General Education has announced this year’s seed grants to support the development of Integrative Studies courses. The awarded proposals are representative of a wide range of academic disciplines, and include proposals from faculty at Penn State campuses across the Commonwealth.

With that bold statement, Salguero and his seven teaching teammates started down a rabbit hole of sorts, immersing 24 hand-picked students in a groundbreaking model of integrated teaching and learning.
